    Description

    Varian 0183 Diffusion Vacuum Pump
For sale- a Varian 0183 Diffusion Vacuum Pump.
It looks like these are typically referred to by a model number like VHS-4 or VHS-6, but I don’t see that on the pump anywhere.
Comparing the fluid charge and the watts it looks like this is probably a VHS-4, but I will let you decide what it is beyond the 0183 which is clearly stamped on it.
I have had this thing for probably five years or more because it had a Varian Cryotrap mounted on top with a steel bracket holding both of them up.
The construction of the bracket blocked access to several of the bolts holding it to a much larger steel cart contraption which also held a Welch 1376, presumably the backing pump for this.
After wasting a bunch of time trying to get at the bolts I finally gave up.
Until now, I did what I should have done to start with which was to grind the bracket in two so that I could remove the pump and cryotrap.
Then grind the sides off the bracket to allow access to the hidden bolts.
Everything always has to be a fight, doesn’t it?
So now I have them apart.
Both the Welch 1376 and the 0183 had their AC cords cut off, but both were set up for 110VAC so I put a new plug on the Welch and that works fine.
I could wire into this one too I guess but after spilling some of the oil I don’t know how much is left so I think I am going to pass on that.
You can see in one of the pictures the remaining oil puddle up inside and it looks very clean to me.
Unfortunately it will have to be drained prior to shipment.
Untested, sold as is, and NO warranty is offered.
HOWEVER, IF you pay the asking price and it has a problem that you cannot live with within 14 days of receipt you may return it.
Returns are ONLY allowed on Buy It Now purchases
    .
Accepted Best Offers are strictly an as is sale, no returns allowed.
Return would be for a refund of the purchase price, not including shipping costs.
Just so that we are clear on that, this is an item that has not been thoroughly tested.
As such it may work fine or it may have problems, so any purchase entails a certain amount of risk.
IF you Buy It Now your risk is limited to the shipping cost in both directions.
If you submit an offer you do so knowing you cannot return it.
In either case you need to decide if the risk level is acceptable to you, and if not you need to pass on this particular item.
